A Wedding Dress for Any Body Type

A Wedding Dress for Any Body TypeIt seems nearly every little girl spends their fair share of time with pillow cases on their heads pretending to be brides, or setting up impromptu weddings between their Ken and Barbie dolls.  It really does start that young with young girls getting excited about, and planning for their dream wedding one day. Of course, since this is the case it stands to reason that when the time comes to actually start planning their weddings, brides are excited and anxious to make it the dream wedding that they have always dreamed of. Perhaps the most important decision for any bride is the wedding dress. As women, it is the most important dress we will ever buy, the most expensive dress for most of us, and the dress that we will only wear once for several hours. Yet in those few hours, you will be the center of attention, and pictures will be made that will last a lifetime…so it’s important to look great in your wedding dress. So now you are out looking for the perfect dress, but don’t know what to look for? Here are some guides to help you find the perfect dress that compliments your body type for you to feel and look your best on your special day!

The Hour-Glass Figure:

An hour glass figure is of course, a figure that is shaped like a hour glass, where the bride is full in the bust and hips, but has a smaller waist.

The most flattering type of wedding dress for a bride with an hour-glass figure is an A-line wedding dress or one with a dropped waistline. Some will argue over a ball gown and a corseted wedding dress, so if you are really attached to one of these styles, just make sure that you find a wedding dress that accentuates your curves, and not one that draws your eye to an unflattering line.

The Pear-Shaped Figure:

A pear-shaped body type is of course a figure where the hips and thighs are fuller, with the upper body and waist being small. If you’re looking for a wedding dress to match a pear shaped body type, you need to find one that will bring balance to your top and bottom half. An A-line wedding dress and ball gown would work best to disguise fuller hips, and paired with either a Strapless, V-Neck, Off-the-Shoulder, or Scoop neckline will draw attention to your upper half and work to bring proportion and balance out your figure.

The Petite Figure:

Having a petite figure can mean so many things. Petite can mean super thin, tall and thin, or short and thin, or simply just short. The great thing about having a petite figure is that nearly every wedding dress silhouette will look great on you. You should watch out for big elaborate wedding dresses though, as they could overwhelm your smaller frame. If you are wanting to make yourself look a little taller, the empire or princess wedding dress will lend to lengthen your figure, but alternatively, if you are already tall and want to take some of the emphasis off of your height you’ll want to stay away from empire dresses as they will draw more attention to your height.

It’s always a good idea to try on some of the wedding dresses that you like to see what works for you. A dress off the rack, or in a magazine may not look the same on the model as it does on you. It’s also important to note that if you are trying to lose weight before your wedding day, this will not severely change your body type. So while your weight may fluctuate between the time you buy your wedding dress to the day of your wedding, your body type will not change. So even if you are planning to lose some weight before the big day, find a dress that suits your body type today, and it can always be taken in later. Good luck hunting!
